Bony lump behind sons ear

Hi, I’m a 36 year old male from the UK (saying this for auto mod) and I have a 6 year old son, he just noticed behind is right ear there’s a bony lump. It feels really hard and bone like to touch, and doesn’t give him any pain at all

He doesn’t have it on the other side which has me a bit concerned. He hasn’t been ill at all lately.

Is this common? Thanks for any advice

That is the right place to be one of his lymph nodes.
Whilst "lump in lymph gland!!" sounds very scary, they also get hard cysts and will swell if fighting an infection - you don't have to show symptoms for it to be doing that, it might just be doing a good job!
You could take him to the GP to put your mind at rest but it is likely to be normal.

Just jumping on this to see what people say.. my two year old has something similar but it’s been there for ages

Hello could you please update because I am going through something similar

It's a piece of bone that helps to bypass anything wrong in the ear, my son has bilateral moderate hearing loss and his hearing aid head band settles on this boney protrusion, perfectly normal.
