Massively excessive burping

DS13 has, in the last few months, developed a problem with excessive burping - really, really frequent and voluminous burps, like he's got an infinite supply of air in there.

It happens after he eats, but also when he's hungry. He says there's a feeling of pressure when it happens, and he feels hungry even if he has just eaten. It seems worse after fatty or acidic food.

He was prescribed Lanzoprazole for two weeks and it improved things a bit. When he ran out, it got bad again, so he was prescribed a 6 week course and the GP referred him for an ultrasound. A fecal sample tested negative for H Pylori.

He had very severe reflux and was medicated till he was about 2. He continued to have problems, but not bad enough for medication, till he was about 9. But he has never had burping like this - it's like nothing I've ever seen! He was just trying to practice clarinet and had to stop because he was burping almost continuously.

Any idea what could be going on here? The GP said leaving him on the Lanzoprazole lone term isn't really an option, and it's not doing enough anyway - it's still negatively affecting his life.

How are his bowel movements? Why has the GP said leaving him on the PPI long term isn't an option? My ds10 has been on omeprazole for 9 months straight for reflux associated with coeliacs disease during his gut healing phase. One of his symptoms is excessive burping also.
Have they stated why they're not willing to try and different ppi or a higher dose if it's only helping moderately? Are they willing to investigate further with blood tests or an endoscopy? Sorry lots of questions but trying to cover all grounds.

He didn't say why, just that it wasn't. DS was on Omeprazole for a long time as a baby and that didn't seem to be thought of as a problem then.

Bowel movements fine, apparently; at 13 I don't monitor them! But he hasn't mentioned any problems. Actually, no, I lie, he did mention a few weeks ago that they had gone green for a few days? So he does mention changes.

I'm guessing here, but the GP seems a little reluctant to push too much, given that burping and occasional, not-terrible stomach pain are the only symptoms. That's why I'm fishing here for opinions, I'd like to have a better idea what to ask about next time we go.

I'd ask for a blood test for coeliacs disease if there is stomach pain and potential bowel changes as well as upper gastro symptoms.
