My daughter is 2.5 years old, around Christmas time she had a bad virus which caused her to come out in a non blanching rash, she was admitted to hospital and treated with a strong iv antibiotic on the sepsis pathway. Once her blood results came back they realised it was only a virus. Since then she has been ill on and off and having really severe night sweats.
a month ago she was admitted to hospital for 3 days and treated again with iv antibiotics for pneumonia. She didn’t have any classic symptoms, breathing fine her chest was clear, but her pulse was through the roof and her crp blood results came back at 184. They did a chest x ray and it showed a shadow on her bottom left lung.
since then she has been on oral antibiotics 3x. I had her at the doctors 4 times last week! Her temp was constantly 37.7+ in the day and spiking throughout the night. No obvious course of infection. The last 2 nights she shone the other way and is sweating a lot but feels very cold. She okay in the day, just sleeping a lot. I’ve now noticed she is becoming very clumsy, falling often.
I am so worried but feels very cold ridiculous constantly back and four the gp. The gp was concerned until her temp went.
when she was admitted to hospital they said her blood sugars were low and put her on a glucose drip, but when I asked about this the next day they said low but not dangerous and probably due to the illness not eating drinking as much. But she had been eating and drinking fine.
shall I request a blood sugar test? My gut feeling is there is something underlying, she is always poorly with some virus or another, she’s a happy well behaved child so doesn’t present as overly poorly.
sorry this is so long, any advice would be much appreciated.
