Any ideas what this rash is?

Started on Friday, looked a bit like an insect bite and then progressed into the open sore over next two days (first photo). Today it looks like the second/third photo.
We have been to GP who has given us fucidin cream but doesn’t know what it is. Baby is 8 months. He doesn’t seem bothered at all but has been unsettled at night, however that could be a regression or something similar.
Anyone had anything similar in their own DCs??

Impetigo? In which case Fucidin is the right treatment

SarahScone · 16/07/2025 12:27

Thanks @Doctor101
We have just seen GP who doesn’t know what it is but has prescribed oral abx. I’m hoping something fairly straightforward like impetigo!

Yep impetigo, my little one had it and looked the same as that. Make sure you are washing towels after each use wash hands all the time as it is so contagious

Ps my little girl did have to go onto oral
anti biotics in the end the clear it so if gets no better with the cream in 5 days take them back

@Mumoftwo2022 thank you for commenting. I did take him back to docs today and they gave us oral abx. It is pure hell getting them into him! I have noticed it is worse again this evening and another little blister has started. Was this similar to your experience? He’s also quite unhappy. Very clingy and needy.
Im a first time mum and definitely worry too much about everything - I really wish the doc had given us a proper diagnosis but they’re really vague.

my doctor was also very vague he just said was some type of skin infection it was only when it came back after 5 weeks and I looked into that it was impetigo went back to the see a different doctor showed pictures of the previous infection and she agreed it was.
it was very sore for her so we gave her regular calpol to keep her confortable. Good thing was the oral anti biotics did clear it up pretty quick. It’s not the best tasting one so if they aren’t at the age where you can try and bribe them then it would be hard to get it down

Is it just in one place? Did they do a swab? If they get a fever or are unwell maybe they need to be seen in ed
