My 4 year old son has this darker patch on his neck it’s driving me mad. GP said it’s an uneven tan. What does that even mean! What do you guys think? Might get a dermatologists opinion

Have you just noticed it though?

my oldest has something similar on his shoulder as he had a sun burn there a few years ago.. might be the case here too?

Isn't it a cafe au lait mark? I have a few and mine don't correlate to sunburn.

EMG1998 · 06/07/2025 14:40

Oh really - did yours appear during childhood?

Yes, I've had them as long as I can remember. You can be born with them or they can develop later in childhood.

Nah I just left it @EMG1998 it happened couple of years ago and it’s obvious the discolouration is cause of this.. it’s the only spot I forgot to put sun protection on 😐

You can see on this photo too

My son has one on his back, so not somewhere that often gets sun. I have one on my arm that developed in childhood. My mum was always trying to scrub it off. It's just a birth mark.

EMG1998 · 06/07/2025 14:47

Haha honestly wish I could scrub his away! I’d like to think it’s not sun damage :)
