What bug bite is this?

Is there anyone who can say what type of bug bite this is. This is on my 11 year olds hand and she got it on Saturday, I think whilst sitting on the grass. I’ve been putting antiseptic on it and I’m keeping an eye on the redness.

No idea but my 4YO got loads that look exactly like that after running around in long grass at the weekend. I’ve just let them alone other than an initial application of bite cream when he complained they were itchy and they seem like they’re healing well.

I’d be worried that might be a tick bullseye rash. Google it and see if it matches the symptoms, and if so get them checked for Lyme disease.

FrangipaniBlue · 30/06/2025 22:28

See to me that looks like a bullseye which is usually a sign of Lymes disease from a tick bite……. long grass is prime location for ticks too……

Ukholidaysaregreat · 30/06/2025 22:30

I agree bullseye rash. Any sign of a tic anywhere. You have to go to doctors and tell them it could be a tic bite and they will give you antibiotics.

Bitzee · 30/06/2025 22:30

Ohhh I see the possible bullseye now, my DC doesn’t have that so sorry. Maybe worth getting it checked out then.

dairydebris · 30/06/2025 22:34

It doesn't look like a bullseye rash to me. But I could be wrong and they do all look different.

Just a word about testing for Lyme. The tests dont actually pick up the bacteria, they pick up the immune response. So getting a test right now wouldn't show anything, you'd be better off waiting a few weeks for a test.

If youre in an area with known ticks infected with Lyme and you're concerned about it you can ask for antibiotics right now just in case.

I will check in the morning and see if the redness has expanded. However I had just taken off a round plaster which I think is the faint circle you can see. Thanks for everyone’s replies

Might be a horsefly.

Might be a horsefly.

I thought the same. Horsefly bites are horrible (not dangerous, just painful).

CatsorDogsrule · 01/07/2025 16:26

Antihistamine or hydrocortisone cream would usually be more effective for a bite than antiseptic. Hope it improves soon.

Birdiepants1978 · 01/07/2025 21:28

Thanks everyone. It was much better this morning. The wider surrounding redness had gone and the antiseptic had pulled out the yellow middle. Just left with a small ‘open’ middle hole which is Red just around that. So keeping on a plaster for the time being.
