Scarlet fever returned?

4 year old finished a 10 day course of antibiotics two weeks ago for scarlet fever. Symptoms went pretty quick after the first few doses and she’s been fine the two few weeks.

This Friday afternoon she had a slight fever, which was on and off until Saturday afternoon. She complained of a sore throat but that passed by the end of the day.

Today (Monday) we’ve noticed she has strawberry tongue again, no fever or no other symptoms since Saturday afternoon.

Could this be the scarlet fever returning or something else? Do we need antibiotics again or do we see it out ?

thanks

I would go back to your GP to check as they could need more antibiotics.

My 3 y/o had antibiotics for scarlet fever and few weeks later had strep throat again so had to have another course (unclear whether the first course hadn't completely cleared it or whether she'd caught it again). You don't want to mess around with scarlet fever so I'd get her seen.

You can get something called Kawasaki disease following Scarlet Fever, and some other illnesses I believe. I’d take her back and mention this to them, as it can be serious if not treated.

Yes scarlet fever returned in me. I caught it off my ds years ago and had the 10 day course of antibiotics and felt better, then around 6 days later it started to come back only worse the second time around, second time I ended up in hospital needing steroids, IV antibiotics and fluids, took 21 days of antibiotics in total between IV and tablets after discharge before it finally went.
