Holiday ear infections

We are away, and as happens seemingly every year, my teenager has developed a bad ear infection in both ears on the first day. Got to a doctor and we have antibiotics, probiotics, painkillers and drops so hopefully it will clear up. But it’s horrible for him. Anything we can do to prevent it other than not allow him to swim (seems harsh!) will he ever grow out of it? He had grommets at 3, I sometimes wonder if these have anything to do with it

Would ear plugs help? This happened to my daughter on holiday last year and she was in agony it ruined a couple of days for her. We are due to go away next week and I was planning on buying her ear plugs in the hope it would help prevent it happening again.

Have you tried a preventative spray? My son uses it as kept getting ear infections from his swimming lessons. It waterproofs the ear canal to stop water getting trapped inside. He hasnt had an ear infection since we started using it about a year ago. His swimming teacher recommended it to us.

Oh I’ve never seen that spray before @Nammathat could be very useful, thanks. Not sure about ear plugs as even AirPods can make it worse apparently

Definitely second the oil spray suggestion. You need to exclude any moisture after showers, shining etc and the oil spray is an easy way to do that. Stops wax building up and trapping water behind it too.

Oh I didn’t know this that’s useful to know as she did have her air pods in last year on holiday and would have had again if I didn’t read this! I’ll get some of the spray that’s been suggested.
