Potty training at 3 year old boy help

Can anyone help with their own experiences? I potty training my older boy who got it straight away. I have been potty training my little boy who turned 3 on 31 May.

I have been training him for 3 full weeks. He will keep dry in his pants if I take him to the potty but he won't initiate going to the potty on his own or the toilet and will wet himself but he will try hard not to wee himself. I see him holding himself and tell him to go to potty or take him.
However he won't poo on the potty and won't try. He rather poo in his pants.

Should I continue trying to persevere and hope he starts using potty on his own accord or should I go back to nappy's and try again in 6 weeks. I'm conscious that he's 3 already and thought he should be old enough to get it. I’m worried about going back to nappy’s and starting again in case this confuses him.

The ERIC website will have good tips re pooing. You can also watch Poo goes to Pooland on You Tube.
Whist he’s learning just prompt him to go or try at regular intervals. Children forget when busy playing

Try underpants under pull ups as then he will recognise the wet sensation.
Can be easier in Summer to crack training with shorts on in the garden.
