Stopping baby gaviscon

I will be contacting the health visitor later on but anyone got any experience at stopping baby gaviscon? The health visitor advised me last week to start weaning off baby gaviscon ready for when my baby goes on the cows milk at 12 months. He has a bottle morning and night, tried going down to one sachet in both (from two), in the morning he started being sick straight away after his bottle so we thought keep that at two and just have the night one at one, the last few nights he's been awake all night, crying with wind bless him. I've had a little Google and it appears it is a side affect of coming off it. He normally sleeps through the night so this is very different for him so wondered if anyone had any tips/did it differently.

We didn't stop until she was on oat milk (cows milk didn't work) - the issues with the formula weren't going to vanish so if she was having formula she needed the Gaviscon in it.

Had your HV been heavily involved in the issues that required the Gaviscon so are well up to date on it? I've had a couple of HV's who were excellent with it, but one who was utterly, utterly clueless.

My daughter is still on infant gaviscon aged 4! She now has it in oat milk but she only now has it in the evening unless her reflux is problematic. We dissolve it in a small amount of boiled water and then add the oat milk and give it a good stir
Could the upset at night be silent reflux. I'd probably try 1 and a half sachets and see if that is a better balance

Health visitors have been hit and miss with it, it was dr led starting it and he had silent reflux so I think this is the problem at night now. I had initially thought to just keep him on it until he switches to cows milk but she advised weaning him off it. It's not worth him being this upset though.

If he's still having the milk that needs the Gaviscon then he still needs the Gaviscon. The HV has given very poor information on that.

Not automatically putting it in the cows milk to see how he goes is a different thing. But it was silly of her to suggest not putting it in the current milk when it's needed.

It might be time to go back to the Dr for some advice. Most babies will have started to put grow the reflux by 12 months but something like 10% don't and the NHS guidelines are to go back to the Dr if they still have reflux at 12 months. It might be that omperazole is now more appropriate than just thickening the liquids.

He's not 12 months yet so my plan is continue with the gaviscon until I switch to cows milk, if he still has a problem back to the GP we'll go. Thanks for the advice.
