Weird spots 4 year old

My son who will be 4 next week has had weird spots on and off since last September. There is no other way to describe them. They have appeared basically all over his body (arms, legs, trunk and even face). They sometimes itch a bit but not excessively. He also has eczema. He has been seen by 3 different GPs, none of them knew what it was but weren’t concerned. I’ve also had him seen by two private dermatologists, again didn’t know what it was. They took photos and showed colleagues and none of them knew either. He doesn’t have any other symptoms really (although sometimes my hypochondriac self looks for things and wonders is he quite tired/run down etc). Interestingly the spots seem to flair up when he has any sort of cough or virus. The private dermatologist said it was likely some sort of atypical viral exanthem. Just really looking to see if anyone has had similar?

As a child I had these, it looks almost identical! Family GP passed it off as “stress - psoriasis” I remember E45 worked and actually cleared it up somehow ..

Has molloscum contagiosum been ruled out?

I've got the same sort of markings currently. No idea where they have come from. Started approximately a week ago and are starting to fade today. Betnovate has helped.
Currently fighting a viral infection. No explanation from the GP as to what they are.
I hope tney don't reactivate as I've got a few on my face.

@notjustunreasonable That’s interesting, I’ve ordered some e45 to try. Thank you! Did yours ever flare up again?

@Thequeenofwishfulthinking Will you let me know if you get any other suggestions or if any more flare up? Thanks

My daughter had something like this on and off, and no dermatologist could find an explanation, but now she’s an adult, her consultant is confident it was some weird kind of eczema. It really bothered me because it looked like cigarette burns, and I worried that I would be accused of harming her.

I also have eczema and had spots/bumps like this that appeared for about 2 years. Never got an explanation but they all disappeared after a 10 day course of antibiotics for a separate skin infection and haven't come back in 18+ months so I've assumed they must also have been due to a bacterial infection.
