My 2.5yo was sick yesterday (about 2pm) and hasn’t been able to keep anything down since, even sips of water are coming back up within minutes. I’m wondering when/if we should call 111 or if it’ll pass on its own? She slept through the night after being sick early on and she has slept a lot today (very unlike her) but I guess she has no energy and it’s good to try sleep it off. But I’m worried she’s not eaten anything today. To make it worse, we have a 3 week old baby at home too, we are washing and sanitising our hands all the time but realistically is there anything else we can do to try ensure we don’t all come down with it?

My LO has just had confirmed rotavirus (despite being vaccinated). It's at much higher rates than normal for this time of year. Similar symptoms. I caught it too :/

Littlemiracles232504 · 15/05/2025 17:40

Has she drank any fluids since yesterday? If not I’d definitely ring 111 because of dehydration especially in this heat xx
poor little love, it’s so tough when the littles are poorly 💜

watermelonsoda · 15/05/2025 20:19

@Littlemiracles232504yes she’s been drinking plenty and it’s hit and miss whether she keeps it down or not, there have been times she’s had a good drink and not brought it back up though 🤞🏻

@watermelonsoda ahh well that’s a relief, hopefully it will just resolve by itself in the next day or so, I’m so glad she’s drinking now 🥰

OtterMummy2024 · 15/05/2025 22:03

You can try Dioralyte from a Calpol syringe, literally 5ml at a time every five minutes/a couple of sips every five minutes if your LO is really struggling to hold liquids down. See if that stays down better than water. They do a double action Dioralyte that also works for diarrhoea. It's been a godsend for me and the baby this week, that was what the GP had us give as GP was worried baby might need an A&E trip otherwise.

Alder Hey have a good page here on red flag symptoms to watch out for. You know your LO best, if you are worried, sensible to call 111 or OoH GP etc

How is your little one now? Mine going through the same! But its coming out of both ends! All he wants to do is sleep

Littlemiracles232504 · 16/05/2025 11:11

my little boy (5) has just been sent home from school we’re only just getting over the last sickness bug
I hope your little one is better today OP x

watermelonsoda · 16/05/2025 12:04

Thank you, she’s a bit better today and has managed to eat a little breakfast and have some water. Only been sick once. Hopefully it’s on the out, she’s very sleepy and really upset in between snoozes

Hope she's feeling better soon.

they are fine to go without food for afew days, hydration is most important.
ice lollies are our go to when poorly

watermelonsoda · 16/05/2025 14:34

I’ve only got rocket lollies in (the three flavour ones, no chocolate), would they be okay to try her with?

We’ve all been through it in this house, it’s horrible. I hope little one is on the mend and doing better. We gave the kids freeze pops and they seemed to be okay with them but we give anything to hydrate them tbh.

Sorry just seen this.
yes these type of lollies over choc ones

watermelonsoda · 16/05/2025 19:32

She had one earlier and was sick again 😭 I think maybe she just wasn’t ready for food yet (especially since she ate it all), it’s only the second time today she was sick but has kept most drinks down. Hopefully better tomorrow 🤞🏻

Sounds like the back end of it, hopefully! We’ve all just recovered now. Whatever this bug is, it’s bloody brutal! x
