Infant gaviscon, constipation?

My baby is 5 weeks and has symptoms of reflux - posseting after feeds, uncomfortable lying on his back, likes to be upright, coughing during some feeds etc. He's exclusively breast fed. I've seen a couple of gp's, one who prescribed infant gaviscon, but was reluctant as he said it commonly causes constipation. And another who really recommended the gaviscon and said it might cause constipation but just to give him 3-5ml of water if it does.
I don't want to cause another issue by treating one he may grow out of. But at the same time, I want him to be comfortable.
If your baby has been on infant gaviscon, what were your experiences?
Thank you in advance!

hi - I feel your pain. I stopped Gaviscon as DD got constipated. Switched to Optamil Comfort with Dr Brown's bottles - and Red Castle baby cocoon mattress. Puking continued for 6 months but the pain was completely gone after several cranial osteopath visits (KISS syndrome). Puking completely gone once weaned. It's a long hall, but persevere pushing your HV and GP for support.
