My 18 month old son will not drink milk out of anything but a baby bottle & warm

Hi all,

I’m currently trying to ween my 18 month old son off a baby bottle onto a toddler bottle (still has a spout), he will absolutely not drink from it.
I’ve been trying it for about 5 days now with his midday milk, he’s had a few sips here & there but ultimately always pushed it away.

I don’t really know what to do. He still have the bottle on a night because I didn’t want to take it away completely until he was used to drinking out of a different cup (I’ll add he drinks water from a cup no issues!)

I don’t want the continued use of a baby bottle to affect his dental development however, I’m also concerned he isn’t going to be getting enough calcium if he continues to refused milk out of anything else.

He also only has it warm… which is fine, I guess. We’ll work on colder milk once he’s past the baby bottle 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Mine are both the same.
i switched to fastest flow. We did bottle then water then brushed her teeth.

oldest is 3 and has zero dental issues.
It just wasn't a hill I was willing to die on. Oldest had a bottle until she was about 2 and still has one the odd time now if she fancies it

Fastest flow, and then cut the teat to make the flow even faster.

Honestly at this age he does not need to drink cups or bottles of milk. Just bin the bottle and continue giving him water as you've said he drinks it fine. Nice balanced diet during the day and he's good.

My DS is 19months and still has milk (warm in a bottle). I went through a patch of trying to wean him off and then decided for the sake of one bottle a day before bed, I really don’t think it’s going to be too detrimental. He will probably wean off the milk before the bottle! Too many other things to worry about. If he was still on 4 or 5 bottles a day it’s one thing but one bottle isn’t going to cause chaos.

My first wouldn't drink cows milk full stop. I stopped breast feeding at 10mths when he went to sleep one night without it, he didn't seem that bothered. Had water or watered down apple juice in the daytime by then and was eating well. He did love cheese and ate some yoghurt. He's 40 now and perfect teeth so please don't worry just let him drink water in his cup.

Tesco do a transition bottle, it's more like a cup and the spout is flat and wide. This was the only bottle we could get our little girl to transition to. She then stopped having milk although and then now drinks milk no problem out a normal cup at 2
