8 month old baby poop problems!

Hi,

Just wondering if it's normal for babies poop to smell really really bad? My DS is 8 months old and weaning ( started at 5 1/2 months) and has a really good appetite, he mainly has soft foods (homemade & ellas kitchen) and some finger foods such as toast, broccoli, homemade pancakes. He is also breastfed.

He seems to get really distressed when he needs a poop and sometimes he wakes him from his naps crying if he needs to have a poop, he also seems windy/gassy. He has bowel movements several times a day, but always struggles to pass them.

His poops vary in colour ranging from brown, green, orangy. And mostly are semi formed. The odour is awful and I'm just not sure if this is normal?

Thanks for any help.

Teething makes my baby's nappies smell AWFUL. The lady's at nursery can tell when a tooth is about to come from the smell!

I think the change from BF poo is also pretty significant is terms of smell; some days you get loads of undigested food and others not. As long as they are soft, a certain amount of variation is normal. My baby (11m) pulls SUCH funny faces while going...

@OtterMummy2024 thanks for your reply! That's reassuring, he is otherwise and happy & healthy baby!🥰 could possibly be those teeth coming through! xx
