My child keeps getting sick from nursery

My little boy has been attending nursery since the age of 8 months. We recently moved to a new area and needed to change his nursery. He is sick at least every other week and this has been happening for the last few months. It’s becoming a pattern and unsure of what to do. He is 3 years old now and is only attending the nursery for the social aspect and to ensure he doesn’t become unsettled when needing to have a routine when beginning school. We are getting sick of him getting ill. He has always been a healthy boy. Is there anything we can do?

Either go with the flow or pull him out.
It is well known that they will pick up everything going when they go to nursery 🤷🏻‍♀️

Do you mean this is only an issue since he started at his new nursery? If so, are they a bit more lax on allowing unwell children in?

Has this just happened with the new nursery? That's interesting as I wonder if it is not cleaned often. I've noticed within my friend circle that two of the children are always sick and with really nasty things. Others don't really get sick, my own DC has only ever had a cold. People seem to think it is a given so I'm interested to hear other peoples thoughts.

Yep, standard issue and you have to pay for the privilege of a space when they are at home sick lol

It’s only started happening the last few months since moving to the new nursery.
I am aware children catch new viruses and stuff when first joining a nursery. But it’s not the first time attending a childcare setting.

My 4 year old has been at the same preschool for the last 18 months and wasn’t too bad for the first year but the last few months seems to be picking up something every other week too. I think there have been quite a lots of bugs and viruses around this winter, I know a lot of people in a similar situation. It might not be this specific nursery but just one of those things. You have my sympathy though, it’s horrible.

This has been a particularly bad winter for viruses.

Also, was he in a babies' room or younger toddlers' room before you moved to the new nursery?

There's no need to be in a nursery to get him used to a routine. You could stick to a solid routine at home, make sure he gets out among other children frequently, and make sure he has plenty of nursery type activities to do indoors too.

What kind of 'sick', and how much of a pattern is it?

If it's regular, and the same symptoms each time, could it be an allergy to something?

My daughter is in reception and this year they have a sickness bug going through their room pretty much continuously from November to February. My daughter has had two periods of sickness in this time and only had sickness bugs twice before I'm the previous 4 years even though she has been in nursery since 9 months. Some of her friends have had back to back viral illnesses this year too. I think it's been a hard winter

I would probably give them the benefit of the doubt for now and see if the rates start dropping over the next month or so, if not it might be worth speaking to the manager about whether your little is picking up more than others in their room.

Try elderberry syrup daily, and supplement vit d in the morning and magnesium at night
