Hey guys and gals, we've just come back from a walk and we've noticed our little one has a blister on his finger and some swelling. There is a little dot in the middle. Is this a sting from like a wasp or ?

Do we need to go the doctors ?

Much appreciated guys

I would have thought the child would have noticed if they’d been stung by a wasp!
Why do you think it needs the doctor? Are they in terrible pain or showing other symptoms? I’d just be putting a bit of bite cream on it and keeping an eye.

Sorry should have added that he's 1 and doesn't speak yet. I'm just a first time mum and concerned that's all.

He would've cried if it was a wasp/bee sting.
It might be a bite from another insect
Might be a nettle sting
Might be a splinter.

Does he seem bothered by it?

I'd just keep an eye on it. See if the swelling and/or redness increases.

He's allowing me to touch his finger and he's using it normally. He didn't cry which was odd to me as he usually does If he's hurt. Thank you so much for replying. I'm wondering if its a different insect as he's just learnt to pick up flowers

Are there any anywhere else? Could be hand, foot and mouth?

Hi , I have checked and it's literally only on the one finger

Hmm I’d just keep an eye on it and see if more appear! He might have just touched something on the walk and reacted to it- if he doesn’t seem too bothered by it I would just wait and see.

I'd watch that for Hand, Foot and Mouth too.

Keepsmiling2948 · 14/04/2025 18:09

Another vote for potential hand, foot and mouth. Have they been under the weather last few days?

The swelling would come with it too?

No , he's been okay. Should I take him to the doctors?

If he's eating, drinking, weeing, playing, and otherwise normal in himself, he doesn't need a Dr. If the bite/spot/blister doesn't track, get hot, bigger or inflamed he doesn't need a Dr.

Most likely got bit while out or over night by the usual household annoyances.

If you're worried pop him to a pharmacy first, but he sounds just grand and got bit.

Thank you so much !! I think I might pop him to the pharmacy so they can have a look tomorrow. He does seem absolutely fine so

How do they get that ?is it a trip to the docs ?

If you're worried I'd pop to the pharmacy and ask them for advice. It may be he needs some antihistamine if it's a bite but it's been a while since mine were that age so I can't recall what they can take.

Smartiepants79 · 14/04/2025 19:16

He does not need to see a doctor. Keep an eye on him and if it starts to swell up or he’s starts to change in the way he behaves then maybe consult a medical professional tomorrow.
If he had been stung by anything he would have screamed and cried. You would have known about it.

He would have howled if he had been stung by a bee/ wasp, you'd have known straightaway that something was up. Just to reassure you 🙂
