My child had a massive speach regression, at we think about 18 months. He's always had quite bad constipation since birth, doctors have always fobbed this off but I've cut out dairy a lot and it's massively improved. Anyway, he's getting back to himself lately (6 month later) with actions, clapping, waving. But still no words. He's 23 month now and hasn't said a word since. However he's started doing some babbling again and often says words really quiet like tiny whispers. He whispered "poo" the other day and then had one. Also I've noticed he's started opening his mouth like he's copying whay I'm saying but no noise comes out!

Check his hearing
Refer to speech assessment

@cestlavielife I've asked for referrals to speach. They say he's too young. He's had an ear test the other day, basically they showed him some Whinny The Pooh teddies in a box when a noise went of, they pointed the first one out to him but he's not interested in teddies or whinnie the pooh so he carried on playing with the woman and the toys and didn't look again 🙄. They said he has got fluid behind both ear drums though but don't know how much it's affecting his ears

Fluid very much impacts hearing
Consider gromnets if he delayed in speech to give best chance
Sounds like he needs full speech and development assessment ask hv to refer
Best to know areas of strength and areas needing support
Does he go to nursery?

P .s never too young for assessment as there are standardised assessments for all ages .. important if there any concern to assess properly get a baseline

Ive done a self referral because the health visitor just won't. Is it quicker if they do it? They don't know how much it's affecting his hearing yet so hopefully we can find that out at his next appointment otherwise it will be another wait for another appointment for him to go to sleep
