My 5 year old bad ear infection with a perforation. How long would you waiting before resuming his swimming lessons?

What does her GP say?

We were told about about 6-8 weeks. Was back at doctors for something unrelated and asked them to do a quick check of her ear. There was still a hole so waited a few more weeks. Think it was almost 12 weeks she was off.

The GP wouldn't see him so we just got a prescription from a pharmacy. I forgot to ask about swimming. It has been about 4 weeks now and he really wants to go back in the pool but I guess we will have to wait a bit longer. Thanks for the replies :)

My ds has a hole in his eardrum. He uses zoggs silicone earplugs. When he was a child he would use a swim cap as well and made sure it covered his ear.

If there is a perforation then you shouldn’t get the ear wet. So if he wants to go in the water then you’d need to get well fitted swimming ear plugs - ideally custom moulded for the best fit.

We used moulded ear plugs with a band round his head when my DS had this issue and still wanted to have his swimming lessons. It was fine and his ear was completely dry when we took them out.

Where did you get these from?

They were called Putty Buddies and then I just bought a headband from Zoggs.
