Secondary drowning and cold

My 1 year old slipped underwater in his bath and was under for maybe 3-4 seconds. He seems alright now about 30 minutes later. He did burp a couple times after so I assume he has swallowed water: the problem is symptoms of secondary drowning seem to resemble the exact symptoms of the cold & cough he currently has. He’s now asleep in cot.

what should I look out for?

Are you sure it was that long? It may have seemed like 4 seconds but surely you hauled him up straight away so more likely 1 or 2? I would ring the NHS non emergency number for advice.

Ring 111 or go to A&E.

Generally it's fine for small kids to go underwater (you do it in baby swim classes). But if you have concerns about something this serious, you should phone 111. Better safe than sorry.
