Properly clean son's penis

Hi,

I am a 35 yr old widow of two young boys, 5 and 2, and I want to teach them how to properly clean themselves (specifically their penis).

Sorry if this is a bit of a sensitive subject, but I don't have any other men that I know, that I would be comfortable talking to this about.

Do I teach them to pull it back? Do they just do it in the shower, do they clean it daily, is it just water or do they use soap? How young should I be teaching them to do it?

Thank you so much xx

If you are genuine, talk to your health visitor.

Ask a medical professional or Google it

Maddy70 · 07/04/2025 11:52

You don't do anything specific. Just being in the bath is enough

How mean.

Hi poster,

Things like this must be difficult for not having a man around.
I for one know it is not as easy as sitting in a bath because my son had problems due to not cleaning properly.
The advice given to him by the GP was to pull the foreskin back and clean whenever he had a bath or shower. My son just used shower gel. Was told it is also important to dry the whole area well.

Hope that helps. X

At those ages the foreskins may not retract yet. You don't need to do anything special and certainly don't be doing anything with it yourself.

I tried Googling it and kept getting lots of different answers, so no, that didn't help.

Thank you so much to the people that were sincere and actually helped me on here, I really appreciate you. ♡

There were some very unnecessary answers on here as well. Yes I'm genuine. I'm grieving and I'm asking for help. Ffs.

OP, I think the responses that gave no detail were because there have been lots of posts on MN in the past by people who were basically wanting a description of child bath routines, cleaning techniques, toilet habits etc for their own personal enjoyment.

People can be wary of anything like this.

Sorry for your loss I hope this was helpful

Queenanne20 · 07/04/2025 15:48

At one time I was extremely naive about similar posts (I'm not saying for one moment that this one isn't genuine) but I once posted about something completely unrelated and someone private messaged me and steered the conversation around to a subject very similar to OP's post. There are some very weird people out there, be wary!
