I don't suppose you are breastfeeding? If so that may give some of immunity?
Have you spoken to your health visitor as they may be able to provide more support.

Aren’t they temporarily immune from the pregnancy provided the mum has had it? That’s why they say don’t take them to chicken pox parties (( I wouldn’t anyway!) before a certain age ( about 18 months)as they won’t normally get enough of a dose to protect them for life.

In any case op, it is normally fetuses and adults it can be dangerous for even if the baby does develop symptoms. Chances are a six week old would only get a very mild dose. They will probably then get it again in childhood if the first contraction was before 18 months.

My son had it at around 16 weeks, he had a very very mild case and then got another very mild case around 4 years old.

My daughter had it at around 8 weeks (caught from DS). She was breast fed and breezed through it without many spots. The MW / HV said she’d definitely get it again as she’s so young but she’s 10 now and we’re still clear despite it going round school multiple times.

legsekeven · 02/04/2025 20:13

I know a few very small babies that had it. It was very very mild as often the babies have some of your immunity. Don’t worry too much

HelpMebeok · 02/04/2025 20:15

I had a 5 week old with chickenpox last year. Hardly any spots and no symptoms (unlike 1 and 3 year old). HV said they would still have some immunity from pregnancy so usually mild in tiny ones

My 12wo had it when 3yo dd got it. When you have an older child there’s always things passed on. He had it much milder than dd.
