Eczema on 2 year old face

Hi! I wonder if anyone could offer advice. My little boy has suffered with red cheeks for a while but recently it’s flared up. I’ve taken him to the dr and they prescribed a steroid for 5 days but it didn’t fully take it away and his cheeks just ended up being very shiny. I’m moisturising with epiderm a few times throughout the day but I don’t know if there is anything else I could be doing? It always seems worse first thing in the morning. Any advice welcome. Thank you!

My DD used to suffer badly with eczema (on the backs of her knees, legs and elbows).

GPs get prescribing stronger steroids like Dermovate, nothing seemed to work.

Took her back, saw a different GP. Said GP specialised in eczema due to his own children suffering badly with it. He prescribed the weakest steroid (hydrocortisone 0.1%) and some Aqueous cream. Said that stronger steroids can have the opposite effect and make it worse and to try his way.

Honestly, was like a miracle cure!!

Shes 8 now and not had a flare up in 5 years 🤞, so there is hope OP of them growing out of it too.

Maybe speak to GP about changing up the steroid regime, or referral to a dermo if current treatment isn’t working. Hugs, it’s awful for them.

Thanks so much @cannaecookrisotto! We’ve been back to the drs and we’re trying a milder cream and antibiotics as she thought it looked a bit nasty - they seem to be doing the trick for now!

It can also be trials and error which emollient works, and you may have to apply it a LOT. DD2's problem areas we did every nappy change, and anything on the face or hands I'd try to get a couple more times on top of that.
