My son wakes up every single morning with really deep spilts/cut lips. They look so so sore and he wakes with blood on his bed.

I have turned the radiator off in his room, he drinks lots, use carmex!

when he cries during the day they resplit and bleed so much again.

any tips please?

What are you using to clean him up with? Maybe change to a warm wash cloth and baby soap for a while.
Vaseline the lips throughout the day - he might be a mouth breather which dries his lips out- you could apply Vaseline before he goes to sleep then again before you got to sleep

I’d have a think about vitamin deficiency too

INeedNewShoes · 17/03/2025 07:31

I was like this as a child. I had a dairy allergy so was brought up on soya milk and it turns out I was allergic to soya. No amount of lip balm of any sort is going to make a difference (and could make it worse). You need to get to the cause. Vitamin deficiencies can also cause this so I'd look into this.

@DustyLee123sorry naive first time mum here. If I give him a multivit will that potentially help?

following as same issue here ☹️
re: vitamin deficiency- dr told me it would be the deep sides of his lips that would
be cracked, not the centre of the lips

worrieworm · 17/03/2025 09:26

@coffeandbookstore ah its awful isnt it. I feel like an awful mum, they look so sore.

my lb has spilts mainly in the centre of his top lip

what’s the rest of his skin like - any bumpy bits?

I would moisturise whole face with something like Aveeno, and then Vaseline or Carmex on lips regularly and all around lips and nose when you go out

I’d switch to a gentle laundry detergent and mild conditioner; in the bath I’d use aveeno

A multi vit is a good idea, especially in winter

And consider other possible allergies.

I think I some people are just more prone to chapped lips than others, my youngest lips are terrible I put Vaseline on all the time but when it’s really bad I go in his room about 10pm and load the Vaseline on. I think that’s the only thing that works as they are not drying over night.
