Is this asthma?

My 2.5 year old has had a cough for about 5 weeks now, it did start from a cold, then he got another cold literally a week after and the cough has remained since. It is worse of a night and he does cough after more active play and when he gets excited.

could this be asthma? How do they usually diagnose a child so young and when should I be concerned? I have no idea what an asthma attack would look like. I’m worried he could be having one and I wouldn’t even know.

When he was about 2.5 my ds started coughing every single night. It drove me mad. Eventually went to the doctors and just by me telling her about the night time coughing she diagnosed asthma. She prescribed a blue inhaler and it was like a switch. No more coughing.
i remember being devastated and I actually cried when she told me what she thought it was.
He is now 19 and hasn’t needed an inhaler for probably 10 years. Just grew out of it.
