Large tonsils causing problems?

My LO is awaiting a tonsillectomy, he has grade 3 tonsils. Constant reoccurring tonsillitis since he’s been around 1 years old. He’s always struggled with coughing but recently the cough seems so persistent! It sounds more like an irritating tickle than a full blown cough, like he is constantly trying to clear his throat! I wondered if anyone else’s LO has problems with tonsils and has similar symptoms particularly with coughing ? I’m hoping after the tonsils are removed all these problems go away as he always is very noisy breather/snoring during the night and has a slight touch of sleep apnea also.

DS had this issue. It was the reason they agreed to him having a tonsillectomy (he also suffered from recurrent tonsillitis but that alone wasn’t deemed an issue). Once the tonsils were out, the tickly cough and sleep apnoea/ snoring stopped. He started sleeping through for the first time (he was 4 years old!). He was like a new child.
