Is it flu or something else?

My DD 6 has had a high temp all week which finally started coming down last night, she's got pain in her tummy, pain in her legs and she won't put weight on them. She's been being sick for 3 days, not eaten for a week. The small amount of fluid I can get in her shes bringing back up and she now has a bit of diarrhea. She's also got a chesty cough.
We've been to the doctors this week and told it could be a virus or flu but have another appointment today to have her checked again and something just doesn't feel right.

Just wondered if anyone has had any experience of this and if it was a virus, how long till feeling better?

Thank you

Hi yes sounds like it could be flu, can't be sure until your daughter has been tested but it's nasty this year. My whole family had it 5 weeks ago, both my kids got it too. My son was complaining of pain in his legs, very generally unwell and the fever tool over a week to subside. We all had awful, lingering symptoms the kids bounced back within 2 weeks, I didn't fully recover for 5. I'd double check with the GP again to be sure, but if she can't keep anything down she may be dehydrated so worth mentioning the GP may suggest seeking further help for that. All the best, its really horrible x

@Birdwordie thank you for your reply! I'm going to ask again if it could be flu and what to do about the not drinking. It's good to know thst your children bounced back within 2 weeks. Glad you're all feeling better now! X

I hope your daughter is feeling better today! I forgot to say my eldest is the same age as your daughter and had a really upset stomach too, it seems to be quite normal in terms of what people are saying about this flu so try not to worry too much she should ride it out it does take a little while they say it's flu a apparently it's different to b or something, who knows haha! All the best xx

Hi @Birdwordie , thank you for asking. I thought we might be coming back out of it last nigbt/this morning but as the day has gone on she's been sleepier, ger temps back again. She's also gagging constantly to be sick but a lot of times nothing comes bur she isn't eating or really drinking still.
I'll see how she goes and whether she needs to be checked again. There just seems to be so much about at the moment! X
