Flu in 8 month old, so worried

Getting desperate now, wanted to see if anyone has been through the same...

My 8 month old has had a bad cough for two weeks and temps of 39 for a week on and off. We were up the hospital Sunday night and told it was bronchiolitis and it would go away soon and keep using calpol and nurofen. We were back up the hospital yesterday as she was struggling to breathe and her temp went really high again. Her oxygen went down to 85 when she was asleep so she had to have the nose prongs for a bit to help her. They took a swab this time and turns out she's got flu type A. They've said there's literally nothing they can do for her, just got to ride it out. Is there really nothing more we can give her. She was up all night again when we got home coughing her guts up soon as she's laid flat, she's losing weight and hasn't eaten proper solids for five days, only having little bits of her bottle but they don't seem concerned 🥺 is it me overreacting? Just hope someone who has been the through the same thing can reassure me 😩 starting to struggle now as it's been going on so long and the constant high temperature is such a worry 😔

Is she having several wet nappies per day?

She is having wet nappies but they're not full, she's drinking less than half her usual milk😫

What about food, is she eating? Try offering ice lollies and melon/cucumber to get fluid in.

She's not eaten solids for five days now, refusing everything 🥺 tried her faves and just won't have anything. Barely wants any of her milk either

I’d try 111 again, and the HV. You are mum, if you’re not happy keep pushing. Do you think she’s any better at all ?
Before next winter I’d be discussing her having the flu jab with your GP.

Less than half of usual fluid and food intake is an amber flag - can you get an out of hours GP appointment?

Itisbetter · 14/03/2025 16:19

Jelly really helps fluid intake.

My baby was the exact same at 9 months and it was horrible watching him in so much pain. His temp was 41, he wasn’t eating and was barely feeding. His nappies had the smallest amount of wee in them, it seemed pointless changing them at times.
The only thing the hospital would do for him was give him fluids when he was dehydrated. The sick kids hospital told me to give him fruit shoots and offer ice lollies then if possible hold him to sleep up right to try clear the cough.

It took a month for it to all clear but he was soon back to his own self. He did lose some weight but very quickly put it all back on.

🤞 your little one starts to pick up soon!
