Any GPs here? Viral tonsilitis

Any GPs here or anyone knowledgeable about tonsilitis know how long it can last, and when to be worried?

My 4 year old has barely eaten, max a couple of bites a day, since last Friday. She has a constant cough so the GP on Monday suggested it was unlikely to he bacterial and I couldn't see any white spots on her tonsils. She has had a persistent high temperature over 38 since last Saturday which keeps going up and down. Today is red again (above 39c).

Just wondering how long a 4 year old can go without food. We've tried meal replacement shakes but she won't touch them. She won't eat ice cream/jelly either. She is normally a child who doesn't stop eating.

What is she drinking?

Takes 7-8 days to clear up. As long as she is drinking plenty (try to get some calories in her this way) it's fine to go without food for a week too.

Tescos sell strep a swabs. They will test if it’s bacterial. They’re rapid tests so you get results quickly. I always take one to the doctors now for my son and ask them to swab him.

Try lollies and smoothies and ice cream for calories
