Fever that comes and goes

Really looking for some advice here on what might be going on.

My daughter seems to have had one illness after the other since Christmas, including ending up at A&E following a temperature of 41 degrees, which was ultimatey attributed to an unspecified virus

Most recently, she has had a cough and cold, reduction in appetite at times and some fatigue with a fever that comes and goes either throughout the day, or even from one day to the next. This has been going on for over a week now, and she has had to come home early from preschool this afternoon because she has been so tired and didn't eat her lunch, although no fever at the moment. She is usually a very active child, and never naps, but has napped on a few occasions this week.

I took her to the GP last week to be checked, and my husband took her yesterday as she was still getting temperatures from time to time although she seemed fine in herself, had her appetite back and didn't even feel warm to touch. The GPs have said it probably viral/a hangover from. A previous virus. She has had a urine test dipped which was clear.

We suspect that she has had COVID recently, but just don't know why she is getting ill so much, and also if it is usual for a virus to last this long? It's her first winter in childcare so I expected her to get illnesses, but this is another level!

Any advice would be appreciated.
