Hello, just looking for advice on how long it might take the side effects of Ethosuximibe to settle?
DD is 4 and has recently been diagnosed with absence epilepsy after starting to have seizures 3 months ago.
We have just started on Ethosuximibe and are escalating the dose over 4 weeks. It’s been amazing at reducing the amount of seizures and how pronounced they are but she’s struggling with sickness.
The morning dose is making her feel sick and she’s vomited about 4 times since going up to the second dose level. Epilepsy nurse suggested it’s ok to stick at the current dose for an extra week while her body gets used to it if it’s making her feel sick but is working well for the seizures. She also suggested taking it on an empty stomach instead of after breakfast but that just meant she vomited before school instead of in the car on the way there! She doesn’t eat a lot at the best of times so I worry it’s related to lack of food as it doesn’t seem to be an issue in the evenings. Just looking to see if anyone had similar issues and if they settled down?
She also hasn’t slept through the night at all since starting the meds (normally a great sleeper) so I’m hoping the sleep disturbance settles too because I’m exhausted! 😴
