My son has had a constant cough for over a week now. Coughing all day. It’s a dry cough, not chesty and no wheeze. Once he’s asleep it doesn’t wake him.

can’t send him to school as he is coughing all the time. GP prescribed a steroid nasal spray but it’s made no difference. Said chest is clear, oxygen levels ok as is temperature.

tried cough medicine, Vapor rub, honey and lemon, steaming, antihistamines etc

what would you do now? He’s exhausted from coughing, fed up and getting no better. Would you go back to the gp or is there a specialist we could see?

am all out of ideas of how to help him.

I would give it another week then go back to GP and ask what next steps are via them. If it’s going to be a long wait then you could pay for whatever next steps they suggest privately.

my children’s classes are full of coughing kids this time of yr. if he doesn’t have any other symptoms surely he is ok to go to school?

Why can’t he go to school with a cough? If he’s otherwise well, you can send him in.

A week isn’t very long to have a cough. I wouldn’t worry.

He shouldn’t be missing eduction for a cough. Try Bronchostop, tastes vile but works.

It’s not like a normal cough or a chesty cough. It’s a non stop cough all day.

Bronchostop didn’t help

Reflux? Silent reflux has a chronic dry cough and often not much more
