I made a mistake with her cups and my DD (age 2) has drunk milk that was out of the fridge for over 4 hours. How likely is she to be sick? 😔

I reckon she’ll be fine!

crumpet · 27/02/2025 20:49

likelihood is zero

lissie123 · 27/02/2025 20:49

Please don’t worry she will be fine

MiddleAgedDread · 27/02/2025 20:49

Unlikely unless you’ve got your heating on 30 degrees!! When I was a kid we used to get school milk that sat on the windowsill in full sunlight until morning break by which time it was practically cheese and we all survived!

ThatAgileGoldMoose · 27/02/2025 20:50

She'll be absolutely fine!

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 27/02/2025 20:50

We currently have no fridge due to house renovation. Milk just on side for a couple days - sniff test says it’s fine. I wouldn’t even question it if out of fridge for 4 hours.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 27/02/2025 20:50

If milk went off in 4 hours, how would people have managed before fridges?

Dillydollydingdong · 27/02/2025 20:50

She won't be sick. Milk is fine after several hours out of the fridge.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 27/02/2025 20:50

OMG! Was she also given a lip balm by a friend?

pizzaHeart · 27/02/2025 20:51

very unlikely and I’m very conscious type who always follow dates

Hercisback1 · 27/02/2025 20:52

Whoa did she also eat a grape at 12.01am past it's sell by date? Risky.

Kangaroo1 · 27/02/2025 20:52

Thank you, that's so reassuring. I suspected I was overreacting, but I'm a bit of a mess emotionally at the moment. Thanks for being kind.

I am so.old that, when I started school, we had free milk.

The dairy would deliver 300 bottles of 1/3 pint milk to our school at about 6am.

It would sit in the sun (or snow, depending on the season) all morning until we drank it.

We all.lived to tell the tale

Ok, understood. I was overreacting.

@Kangaroo1 I get it.

I have these panics.

On the milk front, I love room temperature milk. Used to drive my father mad as I would take my glass before school and pour it for after. He still jokes that if I were a celebrity that would be my demand.

I think the rational answer is that even fresh in date products can be bad.

It will be absolutely fine if it was fine when poured

Ukholidaysaregreat · 27/02/2025 20:57

Sorry! I was just joking. I think she will be totally fine with the milk.

LeafHunter · 27/02/2025 20:57

DS (2) often takes milk to bed and drinks it when he wakes in the night or the morning so I wouldn’t worry.

user2848502016 · 27/02/2025 20:59

Not likely at all tbh

faffadoodledo · 27/02/2025 21:26

I am old. And we used to have to drink milk at primary school break time which might have been left out in the sun for hours in the summer. It was never refrigerated.
Urgh.
Gave me a lifelong aversion to milk, but never made me ill.

TheAphrodite · 27/02/2025 21:30

crikey my little sister would drink milk from a mug from bedtime in the morning when we were younger 🤣🤣😩

Why the need to be so bloody nasty @Hercisback1?.Sad.

Please don’t worry, @Kangaroo1 . Assuming it’s ordinary, pasteurised milk, it’s fine (even unpasteurised should be too, at this time of year.

I remember that to this day from junior school. I absolutely hated it (especially during the summer).

The free milk stopped when I was in what is now Year 4 (2nd year primary). I didn't miss it at all.

I hated it so much that the only time that, even today, I will have milk on it's own now (eg not in tea etc) is when it is stone cold straight out of the fridge on some cornflakes - otherwise I won't touch the stuff.

A cross post. I just said the same thing as well without having seen your post.

WaneyEdge · 27/02/2025 22:09

Milk, if off usually makes a repeat appearance VERY quickly. Ask me how I know….🤢
