Cyclical vomiting syndrom HELP - supplement advice?

Humbug79 · 27/02/2025 14:08

My DS is 10 and has started vomiting every 5 weeks or so, usually enduring a day of terrible nausea and vomiting that starts at 10.30 approx. He will generally be sick to a lesser extent the following day, then improve on day 3. Great health inbetween. Seems like CVS to me, we've done bloods, urine tests and scans and all are clear. GP very reluctant to make any sort of formal diagnosis, however. On our last visit we got some anti-sickness tablets but I am desperate to find a longer term solution, as my poor kid has now missed a lot of school and feels rotten when the vomit hits. No obvious triggers. Can anyone advise if there are supplements, e. g, B vitamins, that they've found helpful? Any tips in navigating this?!?

There are medications that are preventive in some people (overlap a bit with migraine preventers). If your GP thinks these are beyond them you could ask for referral to a paediatrician for advice (they might want to see you first).

Has he had a coeliacs test done?

Humbug79 · 28/02/2025 17:52

No coeliac test yet, but hopefully seeing gastroenterologist next week. He doesn't have any symptoms except nausea/vomits so far

Ask to be tested for eosinophilic gastritis and treat with steroids....

@Humbug79 My 17 year old son years ago..... had a cold and recovered - thereafter every three weeks he would have this episode - the white blood cells in the lining of his stomach would build up and start seeing food in the stomach as the enemy and he would start throwing up green bile - could not eat for days - even water would make him sick ... After three or four days he could start tolerating toast and then would get better and feel normal again till it started all over again. Took them three months to diagnose him-missed loads of school and three stone in weight !! Steroids stopped the reaction and then put on drugs to stop the immune response

@Humbug79

Please go to cvsa.org.uk

You can get in touch with the charity & they can give support with the condition. They can also help with names of specialists that understand CVS as a lot of doctors don't.

They also have a family day every November which is great to attend as you can meet other suffers & families and get support.

My brother was diagnosed with cvs 20 years ago & it is a rollercoaster.

Can still absolutely be coeliacs disease. What bloods did they already do?
