Amoxicillin - change in baby’s bowel movements

Hi!!

just after some reassurance I think 🤔

my 7 month old started on amoxicillin (for his 3rd chest infection 🙄) last Thursday and finished the course Monday.

during the course and ongoing at the moment, he has done nothing but poo!! It’s not necessarily a full nappy every time, more of a shart 🤣 but today alone between 4am and 3pm he’s had 8 bowel movements! He usually has 1 big nappy every other day so this is definitely unusual! The poo is gritty with a lot of mucus! 🤢 iv spoken to the GP and she’s suggested it could be the antibiotic or a tummy bug and to take a sample in should it not clear within the next 48 hours.

my question is… has anyone else’s baby experienced anything similar and when did it get better? He’s also off his food at the moment whereas previously would happily eat 2 meals (purées) a day.

TIA ☺️

Yes it's very likely the amoxicillin. A common side effect is an upset tummy.

It should settle down now he's finished the medicine but follow the doctor's advice in case anything else is going on.

Normal side effect of that medication.
