Weaning sickness

My little boy is 8.5 months old and been weaning since 6. He has a cows milk allergy and reflux which he has gaviscon for and we’re doing puree mainly weaning with wafers/puffs/soft fruit as finger foods for now.

Up until last week he’s been doing great, having meals with big chunks in and pasta/spaghetti/rice in also!

This last week, every meal other than porridge he’s gagging and being sick (huge fountains, not a dribble!) and I’ve no idea why! We’ve gone back to smoother purées and he’s still doing it!

Anyone have any ideas? He does have a bit of a cold so we thought it could be that but it seems a bit extreme? TIA

This did happen with my eldest at around the same age (albeit 18 years ago). He had a sore throat I think and would gag and vomit random foods back. Didn't last long.
