Permanent tooth taking a long time to come out

Hi I was wondering if anyone can reassure me. Our 11 year old lost his upper canines last year. One grew in fine and the other is only barely poking through after many months. He saw his orthodontist just a couple months ago getting his braces off. The whole point of the braces was making room so that shouldn't be an issue. The only other problem would be partial impaction but he has a panoramic X-ray done a year ago in the middle of his braces treatment. I would think we would have heard about any impaction back then. Orthodontist didn't say anything at all about this during his braces removal.

Can it take more than 6 months for a permanent tooth to start coming out of the gums after the baby tooth felt out? Anyone experience that? Thank you!

Yes, my DD’s tooth took forever. The orthodontist spoke about cutting the gum and attaching a chain to it and the braces to pull it up if it didn’t appear. Luckily it did eventually appear, but she didnt have braces in the end, so it’s not straight .

My DSs top teeth took 13 months to come through. I was panicking that they weren't there at all!

Thank you! He had early braces for the reason of making room and assured us there would be room for his adult teeth so if it's impacted it won't be because of space. I've always heard leaving an empty space for too long can cause neighbouring teeth to close in so I'm worried about all of the progress made with his braces getting compromised if it doesn't come in. I'll try to relax for now but I would hate for him to need a surgical procedure.

Thank you. Our son already had braces and an X-ray that would normally look for something like impaction so I'll be so surprised if we are told he needs that procedure especially if you need braces again to achieve that result. May I ask how long it took for your DD's teeth to fully come out? I was happy when I saw a little bit poking through our son's gums because I thought that meant it was not stuck above the gum line but it won't budge any further in all of these months.
