Surgery advice today

DS had surgery on his testicle this morning. All went well, but the discharge information was a bit 💩 Two nurses came in and said the exact opposite to one another. How long should he wear the compression socks for? They are already annoying him and he is getting itchy all over I have sent DH to get some moisturiser to try stop him itching. We are counting our blessings, his pain is very well managed and while it's not comfortable to walk or wee, he isnt in too pain.

They nurses did tell us what we expected to monitor the wound, go to A&E or seek help if he has a fever or any oozing or bleeding. Maybe I am overthinking it but I am so confused. The letter just gives generic advice.

Hi OP

Ouch! Hope he’s still doing ok.

The NHS website is pretty good at giving no frills information on medical questions. If you are in doubt, the NHS phone service 111 would answer a specific query were you to be unhappy with his progress.

Ring the surgical ward he was on if needs be and get advice from them

Ring the surgical ward. My son has had several surgeries now and they have always been more than happy to answer any questions, clear up any confusion etc over the phone.

Thank you he has become really itchy, too, but no rash that we can see, so we have called our doctor instead of the ward. The book they gave us is just generic and says to leave the support for a week and his socks for 2 days
