What does tonsilitus look like?

My 14 year old gets sore throat sometimes, once every 4-5 months or so. My MIL insists it's tonsilitus but tbh I don't trust her medical judgement. I used to get tonsilitus a lot and had mine taken out. My tonsils always went white when they are infected as well as swollen. At the moment one of ds tonsils looks a bit swollen and red but the other one looks normal. He also has mild cold symptoms. Is this tonsilitus or is he just fighting off a cold?

I used to get tonsillitis as a teenager. I'd get a raging temperature and such a sore throat that I could only manage liquids (I did grow out of it - never had my tonsils out.)
I reckon your DS's symptoms are just due to the cold. He'd be feeling very poorly if it was proper tonsillitis.

Thanks, that was my experience of tonsilitus too. Having my tonsils out was much less painful.
