8 year old - monthlong headache

Curious if anyone has had a similar experience.

My DS has had a headache over one frontal sinus since early Jan. Started out positional (worse when upright) and initially responded to antibiotics, but came back after the first 5 days and has been nonstop since. Responds to ibuprofen, but doesn’t go away. GP diagnosed frontal sinus infection and referred to ENT after three courses of antibiotics didn’t work. ENT did another ten day course plus a CT of his sinuses which show nothing. They are now trying steroid nose drops.

He’s had no nasal congestion or cough or fever about 37.6, but has been a bit ‘snorty’ on and off and very tired for several months. Generally over that time, he’s pale a lot, and complaining of tiredness a lot. He also had a funny thing in the autumn when minor cuts weren’t healing for weeks and weeks. I asked for blood tests ant that point and these came back fine.

Would be grateful to hear of anyone’s experience with sinus pain that won’t shift as starting to get worried - he’s just not himself with this fatigue.

Could be post viral syndrome. What is his sleep and eating like, do you give him a multi vitamin?

Food allergy? I had a lot of headaches as a child. In my 30s I realised I was allergic to eggs and hard cheese

I too would give a multivitamin.
Check his diet.
Plenty of clear fluids.

Is he small featured?
I know this will bring out the haters but I would consult a cranial osteopath.
The eustachian tube may be contributing to the problem. A good osteopath can help.

Thanks everyone - his brother is actually dealing with post viral fatigue now himself, and we recognise it as such as he’s had it after Covid before. Filling them both up with multivitamins and probiotics. Has seemed odd they both have constant headache and fatigue but the GP says ‘post viral fatigue’ for my older boy and has had my younger boy on four lots of antibiotics, ENT referral and CT scan. I think it’s the specific location of the headache over the frontal sinus. Also his headache responds to ibuprofen, while his older brother’s is almost certainly functional as it was after Covid as pain killers don’t touch it and it’s clearly li led to the fatigue level, with clear post exertional malaise. He is relatively small-featured, so thanks for the suggestion and will consider most things if this headache doesn’t shift. For my 8 year old doctors all seem certain it’s sinus inflammation, I’ve just never seen anything exactly like it and he’s had no obvious sinus symptoms.

Have you checked your boiler? Carbon monoxide monitor?

Have you checked your boiler? Carbon monoxide monitor?

I was also going to say this. Especially with both children having similar symptoms

Thanks. Good shout. We have a heat pump, so only gas in the house is the cooker. We do have monitors but had crossed my mind I hadn’t tested them for a while. Will do.
