Shadow in gum/jaw on x ray

Anyone experienced this? My 11 year old had a routine x ray of his mouth today and they found this shadow that looked like a bubble in the back of his mouth below his teeth. We have to wait for a radiologist to look at it and make a report but I'm worried. The dentist seemed quite casual about it and said it might be a chat but we have to wait a few weeks to find out more.

I know that's a good sign that we have to wait and it's when they send you straight to hospital for more tests that is the time to panic but I'm still worried and I don't even know what will happen if it is a cyst.

I’m sorry, I have no experience of this so not much help. However, if they were concerned things would be moving much more quickly.

Most likely an abscess , less likely a cyst, could be just an artefact

Thank you. Can you get an abscess not near a tooth though? The shadow thing was lower down than any teeth, about 1cm away on the x ray, although I'm not sure if the x ray was enlarged or not.
