Hi, I’m just looking for a bit of advice (a very anxious mum here!!)

So my 16 month old boy has been hospitalised with bronchiolitis since Thursday needing oxygen 2 days and is now just on antibiotics (co-amoxiclav) Anyway we’ve come out today and his cough is so so bad, the DR said it’s normal and he could have it for a few days. I’m just wondering if anyone else children that have had it what have they been like after leaving hospital?

He’s eating a little more but is just a little whingey and very wiped out, I’m sure he’ll be okay after a few decent sleep back in his home comforts! But the cough is really making me anxious on a night.

Hello. So sorry to hear about your LO. My little one had this a few months back when he was 15 months. We were in hospital on oxygen for 3 nights and once discharged his cough was awful and he was incredibly wheezy and breathless. I was so worried that I took him back to the doctors the day after and they just said that it was normal and that it would take time. He was happy in himself. I slept next to him for a few nights because I was so anxious. He was lots better after a couple of days but probably took a couple of weeks before he fully recovered.
I hope your little one feels better soon.

@Lonestar1988 its absolutely terrifying isn’t it! My LO is a little okay in himself I just think he’s knackered. I have put him in his room with the humidifier on, plug in is on and snufflebabe on his chest/back before bed…I’m debating getting him out now and sleeping with him although he is in the room directly opposite I’m just feeling so anxious it’s just the cough. Everything else his temp/all his sats before he left hospital were absolutely fine. I may see how his cough goes over the next few days, he’s on antibiotics until Tuesday evening anyway.

How was your LO the first few days of him being out? Was he tired and whingey? Or okay just the cough?

I can’t believe how poorly my LO were with it, he started last week just with a bit of a cough, gunky eyes and a little cold. X

My son was admitted with bronchiolitis and pneumonia in the autumn when he was 21 months. It's horrible isn't it.
Doctors told us the cough was likely to stay around for at least a week or 2 but not to worry as long as he was improving otherwise. He was wiped out and took a little while to get back to 100% but we could see that every day was better

My little boy was the same after this illness the day after he came out of hospital his cough was really bad takes a few weeks to go away

Thank you for your replies :-) he had a better night last night then in hospital and a little perkier today. He still looks wiped out and hardly eating but I hope that comes in the next week or so.

Any of your LO not bothered for food after they’d had it?

Yeah his appetite took a while to come back. Doctors weren’t concerned just said concentrate on fluids and the eating just takes time to get better
