Black stool and vomiting - Doctors clueless!

Hi all,
hoping someone on here might be able to help!
5 days ago we brought our 2 year old to the A&E having had 2 completely black/tarry nappies. They were tested and came back positive for blood. Occasionally he says "ow poo" while looking a bit uncomfortable for a brief second but other than this seemed well and full of energy. We were admitted, bloods showed low iron and X-ray came back clear. The hosp we are in (one of the largest in the country) don't have anyone to do scopes on children and the hosp that does advised to first do a meckels scan and rule that out - this is scheduled for tomorrow morning, 5 days after being admitted🙄 my son is now vomiting and off his food, however nappies are now clear for blood - I guess I'm looking for people who might have been through similar to offer their experience on what it turned out to be - I feel like we've been very patient and understanding with the hospital but 5 days in Im getting frustrated that we still don't have an answer. I don't have faith that this meckels scan will provide that, as I don't think that causes vomiting (not claiming to more than professionals, just from my own research!) I guess I need to push them to transfer him and have a scope! Just want my baby home safe and sound now..

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I'm not a doctor and don't really have any advice but I wanted to reply. I suffered meckels diverticulum as an adult. Before you mentioned it I was thinking they ought to check that out, as I think it generally does appear in young children (my case was very rare). The black tarry nappies (well not nappies obviously) and low iron were both what I had, as well as pain on and off for a few days. I wouldn't rule it out because of the lack of vomiting - I remember feeling nauseous but children can be more prone to vomiting e.g. mine vomited with tonsillitis. I'd be surprised about the nappies being clear now though, but as I say I'm not a doctor so I don't know if meckels can come and go like that. When you say the scan is tomorrow, is that today - Friday? I really hope you get some answers.

Thanks so much for your reply! He had the meckel scan this morning and it came back clear, doctor said she wasn't surprised, that it was more of a "tick the box"🙄 I had to put the foot down a bit and firm up (which I hate doing😬) but we're going on an urgent list for a scope in another hospital early next week so at least there's a solid plan and he was given an X-ray on the tummy earlier also and it really doesn't look like he swallowed anything! They're thinking maybe a viral/inflammed tummy but we should know for certain soon🤞🏼 so worrying when your baby is sick but hoepfully will be on the mend soon😊
