Croup- can I get steroids now?

My three year old has croup (again). Will 111 be able to sort out a prescription for steroids? I don't really fancy dragging her out to urgent care if I don't have to...

I would say a call handler is going to be very hesitant to make a decision that doesn't involve someone seeing the child in person. Most croup is self-limiting with steroids helping things along, but children with that description can also have significant airway problems that move quickly.

You can ring 111 as well (where I am it is used to allocate GP Out Of Hours consultations anyway) but I would probably pack the bags. Hopefully it's a quick encounter that shows things moving in the right directions and you get what you need.

Probably not. Taking them outside into the cold air might help though. Shrinks things down so they can breathe a bit more easily.

Such an awful night; called my GP surgery first thing this morning and of course no appointments left for today!! So I am guessing it's 111!
