Appendix ultrasound

Hi my daughter has an ultrasound a few weeks ago and the person doing the scan said "appendix flipped" I didn't think to ask at the time but does anyone know what this actually means? My daughter is in a lot of pain but has just been referred urgently to gynacology thanks

I imagine it means that it's not in the normal position, possibly a mirror image of what it normally is.

When ds had his appendix out, it took 4.5hours because his appendix was in the wrong place and twisted to be perpendicular to normal. Apparently it's not uncommon for them to be in slightly different places, but his was more than normal.
