Toddler coughing all night - tips?

Me and my toddler have a cold and her cough is really bad at night. It seems to be tickly cough that is triggered by the amount of snot that's dripping whilst she sleeps. It almost seems like the exact minute she falls asleep, something switches on in her body that says "cough time". Anyway we're on the second night of it now and none of us had much sleep last night. We've tried sitting up with her, the humidifier, Vicks, extra fluids but it's not doing too much.
Any other tips I'm missing or do I just ride this wave?

Have you tried lifting their bed mattress slightly at the head end just so they are not lying completely flat? It can help with congestion. I used to put a cushion wedge in just to elevate it slightly.

Yep - put a pillow under the mattress to raise the whole end.
Also a honey in hot water drink.

The only thing that has ever made a difference for my youngest who has suffered a lot with nighttime cough was antihistamine prescribed by the GP. It dries everything up so they’re not so snotty and makes them more sleepy. I was desperate though & we hadn’t slept properly for days and days, so he took pity on me.

Liquid sudafed might help clear snot up which often helps with cough.
Lifting head end of bed up and small tub of water on the radiator might also help

Have you tried slathering Vicks on the soles of the feet, followed by socks. It always used to help mine.

Saline spray and snot sucker?
