Constant viruses from Nursery

Hi all, my 3 year old son has been attending nursery for 1 year. Started off 2 days per week (with childminder remaining week days) now he’s in the full 5 days as of this month. He has been sick every 3/4 weeks since starting there and has a constant cough. It is really affecting our lives. The only month last year he didn’t have any symptoms at all was July as it was the summer holidays! From mid October last year the viruses have literally been back to back with 1/2 well days in between. He had Covid and was off for almost 2 weeks, as soon as he was back he picked up anorher respiratory infection. He got over that mid November but then had another respiratory infection which turned bacterial and required antibiotics (3rd time in a year). 2 days after stopping antibiotics and going back to Nursery he had norovirus which lasted 7-10 days. Then, 2/3 days later he had another respiratory infection which lasted well into the Christmas holidays. He was fine from the weekend before New Year until he went back to Nursery last Tuesday and has now been floored again with another respiratory infection. He has been given antibiotics again as his chest is crackly and also an inhaler to trial for 4 weeks. He will be off again a few days this week to fully recover but I am absolutely dreading him going back as I know by next week we will start all over again! Is this normal? The GP has said it is but I have 2 older children and they were never off Nursery as often as this. We only have my mum to rely on 2 days per week for childcare for sick days and we both work full time. We have had to take A LOT of unpaid days over the past year. My work seem to be pretty understanding but I know the strain it has on them staff-wise when I don’t go in. We really are at our wits end. Will this phase ever pass? Should we be pushing for tests to see why he is constantly picking up everything? Or am I over reacting and just need to get on with it and hope for better days soon? Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

sounds normal in a way. Not all kids get a sick as often however a lot do, my little boy is the same it’s very frustrating but some kids are more susceptible of picking up viruses.

It's slot but sort of normal. Why did you stop with the childminder? Less germs there so you would have less days off

@Mumoftwo2022 thank you for your response. It seems like he is unfortunately just one of those children who will pick up everything. Hopefully our boys will eventually build immunity to these horrible bugs as they grow.

@Burntt thank you for your response. Our childminder only had availability 3 days per week but we needed 5. At the end of the year she mentioned a few times that he was infecting a lot of the other minded children with the bugs he was picking up at Nursery. Therefore, she felt it would be best that he be in one place all week. Nursery was our only option as we have limited childcare available in our area.
