Hi All,

My LO has been unwell recently. We moved house a week ago and he was very unsettled next few days following that. He also developed fever 2 days after moving in but fever went away after few days.

However, it's been 4 days he hadn't been eating well at all, just had breast milk and all he wants to do is have milk and sleep and it hurts me seeing him like this because he usually plays, watched miss rachel or Mr Tumble and walks around here to there and now he is just sleepy and irritated bless him.

He had new teeth coming through including molars so I don't know if it's that which is causing this behaviour.

I called NHS 111 yesterday and they made an appointment at my local urgent care centre. The doctor who checked my LO spoke extremely fast and he was like most parents come to get antibiotics what do you want to do, and proceeds to say antibiotics ruin the guy etc. I didn't like how he assumed that we went for antibiotics. He checked his lungs, ears and stuff and ruled out infections etc and said it's probably a bug and I can give calpol etc. But within that time he also said I could see your child crawling on the floor he seemed fine I'd never let my son do that, and goes to say there are so many stuff on the floor that get cleaned like blood vomit etc and I'm like wow I'm not liking this being judged. I have PND and first few months I was paranoid about my LO touching stuff but now at walking stage I just let him be because I can't always keep him strapped to my legs!! so I was upset at this doctor of course.

I still don't know the reason to why my LO is feeling like this and it's upsetting me loads.

He is never usually like this, it used to be difficult sometimes putting him down for a nappy and now all he wants is to have my milk and sleep 😭 I just want him to be him self again.

Any advice will be very much appreciated. Thank you

I'm sorry that you felt judged. Out if hours GPs can be a bit hit and miss.

Does he improve with Calpol?

Marked sleepiness and being off food for the length of time your child has been would be cause for alarm. I'm surprised the doctor dismissed you. Can you take him to A&E or to another urgent care? If he's not more awake and eating on Monday I'd definitely pack a bag and go to be seen.

As an aside - I'm with the doctor about letting your child play on the floor of a doctor's examining room or waiting room (also airport, station, etc.)

Just to say OP - lots of people on MN are clean freaks so take it all with a pinch of salt.

If he’s been checked over by a doctor personally I would keep at home and keep going with rest and fluids and monitor my child.

Keep your eye on your baby. You know them best. If they do not seem better soon I would be taking them to childrens A and E. There could be an underlying issue that needs treating.
