Hi there,
Has anyone seen a rash like this before?
The rash is much more severe around the nappy area but I won't post that obviously,
those red bumps are all clustered round his nappy area, and spreading down his legs and also all around his mouth.
My son is almost 2, he had hands foot and mouth 2 months ago and I don't think it's that as it did not present like this last time,
The rash at his bottom area has also now started to blister!
timeline
22nd - attended kids A&E for bronchilitis, prescribed oral steroids, blue inhaler and purple inhaler. Son has had the oral steroids and blue inhaler previously with no issues. Never had brown inhaler before ( he has been referred to asthma clinic now)
24th - started on steroid inhaler,
25th - rash appeared on nappy area in the AM - by PM it has started on his mouth too
26th - rash spread down his legs and this evening it is continuing to spread around his legs and blotches are appearing on his arms / hands etc now.
Other symptoms - crabbit, angry cry, not sleeping, very clingy to me, usually a happy cheerful boy with lots of energy.
Still taking fluids but reduced intake and not eating much apart from cold foods,
I have called 111 and have an appointment at 11pm at out of hours but just looking for advice if anyone has seen this before?!

It looks like hand foot and mouth, my baby has had this last month. She had it worst on her nappy area, legs, arms, and around her mouth. Her hands and feet were barely covered. She was very cranky for 36 hours or so when the rash appeared and in hindsight had been grumpy a few days before this as well.

I’m sure you can catch it twice as well!

Is it bumpy? DD had a scarlet fever rash when she was 5 that looked a bit like this on her trunk and back. OOH triage gave us antibiotics. Glad to see you’re getting it seen. Xxx

@Juliagreeneyes
Yes it's bumpy and feels a bit like sandpaper, fingers crossed I can get something to help him , awful for him xx

Does he have a spotty whitish tongue? A sore throat? Scarlet fever is a variant of a strep sore throat which also produces a rash on the body which feels sandpapery with raised red bumps - it’s generally not serious but they do normally prescribe antibiotics. Alternatively it could be another kind of viral rash. Please update us when you’ve seen OOH OP, and I hope your little one is feeling better soon!

My kids went through few cases of a rash triggered by a cold , spreading from a nappy area to legs and then torso, starting as small red spots and developing into bumpy blisters. No fever or sore throat/mouth symptoms. The doctor just said viral rash, I have also found that Gianotti-crosti syndrome pictures looks very similar to what they had. We got some steroid cream to help with this rash as their skin was very irritated.

@lockdownmummax how is your little one today? Did you get seen in the end?

Just updating in case any other mums come back to this form looking for advise, it was hands foot and mouth! My son had HFM not long before this so I was surprised he caught it again so soon, the rash spread over his full body but he recovered quickly, was a rough few days for him though x

That’s good that your figured out what it was! I have to say when you said nappy area I really knew it would be HFM. My DD had hardly any spots on her hands or feet, but she was covered everywhere else especially on her nappy area and face.

I knew it was HFM as I caught it shortly after she did and I did get the classic blisters on my hands.

She’s in nursery now and she’s had it again but it was less severe second time.
