Possible asthma 2 year old / viral wheeze

Hi 👋 looking for any advice from people who have been through similar. My son just turned 2 and over the last few months has ended up at hospital with every cold he has, he ends up wheezing and sucking in when he’s breathing so gets given steroids. I’m worried about how often this is happening and the effects of steroids every 2 weeks but doctors say asthma won’t be disagnosed until he’s at least 6 and basically he’s just a ‘viral wheeler’ is there a referral I should push for? Any advice is very welcome 🤗

They won’t diagnose him because so many children grow out of it. My family has a history of brittle asthma and my son is 1.5 and no doctor will diagnose him either and he’s the same as your child. There’s no point pushing. They used to diagnose at 3 and moved it to 6.

DD was prescribed a blue inhaler for viral wheeze after having to go to A&E with her sucking in when she was roughly 14m. We did need to make use of the inhaler every time she had a bad cold for the next couple of years but happily she grew out of it and hasn't wheezed since she was 4.

It doesn't really matter whether they diagnose it as asthma or not as the treatment will be the same regardless, but it sounds as if he should be in preventor inhalers. Is he taking anything daily?

This was both my kids when they were younger but they grew out of it one uses an inhaler for sports at times

He does have a blue inhaler for when he has a cold we were told to use that, but even then he still ends up needing steroids 😣
